London Coliseum

Soar over the Land of Snow with Tchaikovsky's exquisite ballet, now a Christmas tradition for London theatregoers. Best for age 5+.

Nutcracker London Tickets Are a Christmas Tradition

Drift into a winter wonderland with The Nutcracker at the London Coliseum. This quintessential ballet has been the sparkling star of London Christmas theatre for over 50 years, and generations of families have flocked to see the world-famous English National Ballet’s whimsical and awe-inspiring production. As the nights draw in, the story of Clara and her magical companion is ready to welcome you into the festive season.

The Nutcracker Story

On a frosty Christmas Eve in Edwardian London, Clara is gifted an enchanted Nutcracker who sweeps her off to a magical new world. With her valiant companion by her side, Clara meets handsome strangers, defeats the dastardly Mouse King, and floats above the Land of Snow in a hot air balloon.

This exquisite story brings dance, music and magical storytelling to the West End, with an array of extraordinary characters leaping - and often pirouetting - across the stage including mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer, beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy, and her handsome Cavalier.

Over 100 world-class dancers and musicians transform the Coliseum stage into a winter wonderland in the English National Ballet’s sumptuous production, which transports audiences from the austere surroundings of Clara’s London into the wonderful, fanciful and sometimes menacing new world, brimming with adventure.

Wayne Eagling's iconic choreography is a sight to behold as the rousing score, by Tchaikovsky, soars through the auditorium.

Who wrote the Nutcracker music?

Russian composer Tchaikovsky wrote The Nutcracker’s famous score, which has whimsy and childlike wonder thrumming beneath every note.

Even if you have never watched a ballet or listened to classical music before, you will undoubtedly be familiar with the sprightly notes of Tchaikovsky’s “The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” or the wonderfully varied “The Nutcracker Suite”.

There is nothing quite like hearing the opening of this beloved and world-famous work echo through the auditorium at the beautiful London Coliseum. Audiences have been left inspired for generations by the fusion of dance and music that makes this wonderful production so enduring.

The History of The Nutcracker Ballet

With thousands watching it in London and across the UK every year, this popular ballet has become richly entwined with the Christmas season. It is based on an 1816 children’s story, E.T.A Hoffman’s The Nutcracker and The Mouse King, that was later taken by composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and transformed into a soaring work of classical music.

The English National Ballet first presented the ballet at the Stoll Theatre in 1950, and for many years since, it has been a major draw for audiences of all ages at the London Coliseum. The Nutcracker’s fascinating and storied history means it is now one of the most popular ballets of all time, and a must-see with tickets selling out year after year.
