Sunset Boulevard Tickets
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stunning musical hits the stage of the London Coliseum with Glenn Close in the leading role as Norma Desmond. Reprising her performance from 1995 that has become the stuff of legend, Close tells the story of a delusional silent movie actress who traps a young screenwriter in her grasp.
Sunset Boulevard is based on the 1950 Billy Wilder film, and follows the tumultuous relationship between bygone silent movie siren Norma Desmond and down-and-out script writer Joe Gillis. The delusional actress is convinced she is still a star and Joe does everything in his power to protect her from the truth. Lavished with gifts, money and love, Joe begins to find his situation suffocating and must do anything to escape regardless of the dramatic consequences.
Close stared as Norma Desmond, reprising her peerless Broadway performance from more than two decades ago. Best known for her roles on film in The Stepford Wives, 101 Dalmations and Fatal Attraction, Close is no stranger to the stage. With numerous performances on Broadway as well as a run at the National Theatre as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire, Close returned to recreate the magic from her 1995 performance of Sunset Boulevard.
Andrew Lloyd Webber hardly needs introducing, with such shows under his name as Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and Evita. Sunset Boulevard is one of his lesser performed musicals, but includes stunning songs such as ‘As If We Never Said Goodbye’, ‘Every Movie’s a Circus’ and ‘With One Look’. Alright, Mr. Lloyd Webber, she’s ready for her Close up…
