National Theatre - Lyttelton

David Hare's I’m Not Running, which explores politics and the health services, plays a strictly limited season on the National Theatre's Lyttelton stage.

David Hare is one of British theatre’s most prolific living playwrights, with his scripts, screenplays and adaptations numbering well into the dozens. His newest play, I’m Not Running, premieres on the Lyttelton stage at the National Theatre this autumn, for a strictly limited season.

I’m Not Running delves into contemporary politics and health services, following Dr Pauline Gibson and her Labour Party member ex-boyfriend, Jack. When the two reunite, Pauline must decide whether to run, or not. Is it worth sacrificing your personal life for a cause you hold dear? And what are the repercussions of your choices?

Casting includes Sian Brooke as Pauline, with credits including Dido Queen of Carthage at the National Theatre and Absolutely! Perhaps in the West End. Further cast members are Alex Hassell, Joshua McGuire, Amaka Okafor, Liza Sadovy and Bridgid Zegeni.

Neil Armfield directs this new play. The Australian director was the founding Artistic Director of Company B, has worked across Australia, Canada, the US and the UK. Writer David Hare’s recent plays include The Red Barn, The Moderate Soprano, Collateral and Denial. He writes for the stage and screen, and has won numerous awards, including two Olivier Awards, a BAFTA and three Tony Award nominations.

Further creative team includes set designer Ralph Myers, costumer designer Sussie Juhlin-Wallen, lighting design by Jon Clark and sound design by Paul Arditti, with music by Alan John.

Do you dare run? David Hare’s highly-anticipated new play forces you to consider your choices and evaluate the importance of your actions. I’m Not Running plays at the National’s Lyttelton Theatre from 2 October 2018 to 31 January 2019, with a press night on 9 October 2018.
