Cuckoo Tickets Available Now

Enjoy a dark new comedy at the Royal Court Theatre as Michael Wyrne’s Cuckoo plays at the Sloane Square venue. This bold and funny story about family, home, and safety in the modern world premieres at London’s best hub for new writing, and is Wynne’s eighth play to be performed there. Don’t miss this latest triumph, running for a strictly limited season from 6 July - 19 August 2023.

What is Cuckoo about?

Downstairs, Doreen and her two adult daughters are sitting at the table eating dinner. It’s fish and chips, and the conversation isn’t flowing because they’re distracted by their phones.

Upstairs, 17-year-old Megyn has locked herself in her grandmother’s bedroom and doesn’t want to come out. No one can work out why.

Cuckoo explores the safety we look for in our homes and the ways we cope in a world that is becoming increasingly uncertain. With just a tantalising glimpse of what to expect in this tumultuous, probing, funny and dark new play released, audiences will have to book tickets to find out exactly what happens when three generations of one family meet and talk at Doreen’s house.

The Cuckoo Play Cast and Creatives

Cuckoo is playwright Michael Wynne’s eighth collaboration with the Royal Court Theatre, and co-produced with Liverpool Everyman Theatre. Wynne is an Olivier Award-winner, having won Best New Comedy for The Priory, and BAFTA Award winner for My Summer of Love. His other work includes debut The Knocky - which premiered at the Royal Court - and Friday Night Sex.

The play is directed by Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone, with lighting by Jai Morjaria and sound by Nick Powell.

The cast of Cuckoo includes Sue Jenkins (Coronation Street; Brookside) as matriarch Doreen, Michelle Butterly (Benidorm) and Jodie McNee as daughters Carmel and Sarah, and Emma Harrison as Megyn.

Tickets for Cuckoo Promise Brilliant, Probing Comedy

Michael Wynne has had work produced at one of London’s most eminent new writing venues under four different Artistic Directors (Steven Daldry, Ian Rickson, Dominic Cooke and Vicky Featherstone) - so this is a play definitely worth seeing! Cuckoo is part of the venue’s fantastic 2023-24 season and sure to get people talking thanks to Wynne’s excellent wit and study of human relationships. Book early to avoid missing its short six week run in London.
