Roald Dahl’s choc-tastic classic children’s tale, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, took to the West End stage for a stunning four year run.
Hollywood Director, Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall), directed for the stage once again as he brought to life Willy Wonka’s marvellous chocolate factory for a live audience in an all singing, all dancing production.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the inspiring tale of Charlie Bucket, a young boy living on the breadline who dreams of delicious Wonka bars and visiting the famous factory in which they are made. All of Charlie’s hopes and dreams look set to come true when Willy Wonka decides to open up his sweet house of wonders to the public. That is if he is able to find one of his illusive golden tickets, hidden within 5 chocolate bars across the world. Will Charlie be one of the lucky few and get to experience a life of luxury and indulgence for the first time in his life? Or, more importantly, will his dreams live up to expectations when he is finally able to fulfil them?
Including the much loved song “Pure Imagination,” from the film of the same name, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also contained an otherwise entirely original score by Tony Award winners Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. Stand out musical numbers include “It Must Be Believed to Be Seen,” and “The Double Bubble Duchess” which had audiences foot tapping in their seats.
