Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical follows the main character Strat, who has fallen madly in love with the daughter of the tyrannical Falco. It is a romantic adventure about youth, rebellion and passionate love, all set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic city.

The musical includes such hit songs as ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’, ‘I’d Do Anything for Love… (But I Won’t Do That)’, ‘You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)’, ‘Bat Out Of Hell’, ‘Dead Ringer For Love’ and ‘Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad’.
Bat Out Of Hell originally started its life as a futuristic rock musical called Neverland which was loosely based on Peter Pan and was written by Jim Steinman for a workshop in 1974 and first performed at the Kennedy Center Music Theatre Lab three years later. When Meat Loaf heard the songs, he thought they were ‘exceptional’ and this led them being recorded as his next album.
The album was first released in 1977 but was not initially a hit. Despite this, its popularity slowly grew over time and became one of the bestselling records in the world, staying on the United Kingdom album charts for a huge 485 weeks and has sold a total of 43 million copies worldwide. It has taken years of development by composer Jim Steinman to finally bring it back to the stage.
This brand new musical is directed by the Obie award-winning American director Jay Scheib. Scheib’s previous work includes Addicted to Bad Ideas, A House in Bali and Bellona, Destroyer of Cities. He is known for his work across live-cinema, opera, music and non-theatrical events.
Jim Steinman is a regular of musical theatre, having collaborated with fellow composer Andrew Lloyd Webber for the musical Whistle Down the Wind, which he wrote the lyrics for. The show opened in America, before coming to the West End’s Aldwych Theatre in 1998. This included the song ‘No Matter What’, which became a hugely popular hit for Boyzone.
