About the Apollo Victoria Theatre

The Apollo Victoria is one of the largest venues on the West End, with a seating capacity of 2,304. It is one of two theatres in the capital named after the Greek god of the arts; the other is the Apollo Theatre London on Shaftesbury Avenue.

It first opened as a cinema in 1930 and would host variety performances as well as films. The beautiful art deco building features horizontal banding to the exterior, iconic to the style, and was Grade II listed in 1972. In the 1950s, while still a cinema, the Apollo Victoria hosted a mix of ballet, live performances and films. In 1981 the venue reopened as a dedicated live performance theatre. A concert commemorated the occasion, with Shirley Bassey as the headline act.

The Apollo Victoria has hosted prolific musicals such as The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Bee Gees musical Saturday Night Fever and the long-running Starlight Express from 1984-2002.
